Chile remained steady in 26th place among 55 countries in the 2008 world competitiveness index prepared by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD).
The United States topped the ranking, followed by Singapore and Hong Kong. Chile was the Latin American leader, followed by Peru (35th), Colombia (41st), Brazil (43rd), Mexico (50th) and Argentina (52nd).
The international report measures four areas: economic performance, government efficiency, business efficiency and infrastructure and knowledge. Chile dropped in economic performance and infrastructure, but rose in government efficiency and institutional framework for business competition.
