Santiago, the capital of Chile, was ranked 19th overall and as one of the top 5 for contact center sourcing, among 50 emerging cities for outsourcing according to the publication made by Global Services.
With a GDP of US$140billions and a GMT -4 time zone, Santiago has increasingly been identified as one of the top emerging cities for outsourcing in Latin America. Argentina, Brazil and Chile lead the list with four cities among the top 20.
The top five worldwide emerging outsourcing cities for IT and BPO are Bangalore, Delhi, Manila, Mumbai and Dublin.
The report highlights the several changes in the focus of sourcing decisions, which are increasingly centered on cities and not countries. There are many reasons behind this, in particular the high variability among different skills and costs inside a given country. Indeed, outsourcing decisions must take into account the process or services that will be sourced; skill availability among cities varies significantly, and the labor pool for the particular sourcing area will be a priority among the factors to be considered. Furthermore, investment challenges of saturation and scale, as well as considerations of expansion and long-term cost management are leading companies to find alternative locations for sourcing. These emerging 2-tier cities must be carefully evaluated, and will enable operators to better plan for future growth in each area.
