Latin Business Chronicle: Chile is best country to do business in the region
Publicado el: 17 de junio de 2007

The Latin Business Chronicle's second annual Latin Business Index once again ranks Chile as the best Latin American country to do business.

Chile outperformed Mexico (2nd), Latin America's second-largest economy, as well as Uruguay (3rd), which took the place held by Costa Rica in the 2006 ranking. The ranking considered a total of 19 countries in the region.

The study suggests that Chile's high score is due to the fact that it leads four of the five categories upon which the ranking was based: macro environment, corporate environment, technology level, and socio-political environment. "The only category in which it did not rank first was globalization and competitiveness, which was led by Panama. Chile ended up third in this category due to lower transfer levels." In the corporate environment category, the top five places were held by Chile, Mexico, Peru, El Salvador, and Uruguay. "All these countries showed good results in terms of access to capital, corporate tax rates, and doing business", states the index.

The study adds that Argentina and Venezuela have implemented increasingly hostile policies toward investors.
