Government Incentive for R+D
Published: February 16, 2009

Encouraging business innovation is at the core of the Chilean Government's interest. Therefore now is supporting and stimulating industrial research and technology transfer.

Businesses can apply for a special 35% tax credit for R+D expenditures associated with the adoption and generation of new technologies and carried out in conjunction with universities and research centres. For the remaining 65%, companies can reduce this tax, as a necessary expenditure to income production, regardless of the company's commercial activities.

In effect, the Chilean State will finance $46 out of every $100 (Chilean pesos) invested.

Both the contracts and the R+D centres (*) must be certified by CORFO in order to apply for this credit. Download the list of certified centres here.

This legislation gives companies a powerful incentive to increase investment in R+D in Chile, so that the country moves towards a knowledge-based economy.
