Chilean foreign investment committee: foreign direct investment increased by 286% in 2008Published: April 21, 2009 Despite the economic slowdown and a complex setting, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) made -i.e., investments effectively made in the country- amounted to US$ 5,242 million last year, a 286% increase compared with 2007 figures. This information was reported by the Chilean Foreign Investment Committee. Canada is the leading investor in Chile with projects assessed in US$2,190 million during the past fiscal year, mainly in mining and energy. Canada also ranked second in approved investments with 16 applications, thereby consolidating itself as one of the largest foreign investors in Chile.
