BBO: Chile is one of the 3 safest worldwide locations for offshore operations
Published: April 21, 2009

When it comes to system availability and the protection of sensitive data, Chile is emerging as an important destination for operating due to its good rankings in most of the criteria for assessing offshore locations. According to "2009: The Year of Outsourcing Dangerously", published by the Black Book Research, of the Brown Wilson Group, the terrorist attacks in India - one the main locations of the industry - have irreversibly changed the calculations when selecting a destination for Global Services.

"According to users and global corporate development executives, the top locations for operating with lowest downstream risk in 2009 are Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Latin America. Singapore (Singapore), Dublin (Ireland), and Santiago (Chile) are now viewed as significantly less dangerous offshore locations than all the major hubs of India", says the Black Book. Santiago outranked the Mexican Capital and Monterrey, San Jose (Costa Rica), Montevideo (Uruguay) and Buenos Aires (Argentina). Other Latin American cities like Brasilia and Curitiba (Brazil), and Bogota (Colombia) were ranked among the 25 riskiest.

One of the top trends for outsourcing professionals this year is to focus on the vulnerability management of offshore suppliers, and strategic choices are being made. Indian outsourcers have begun to rush to Central and Eastern Europe and Latin America to establish data and service centers because of the security concerns of continuing operations exclusively in their country.
