Hernán Cheyre becomes Executive Vicepresident - CEO of CORFO

The new Executive Vicepresident - CEO expressed that CORFO and its associated divisions and programs, including InvestChile, are once again prepared to act as an efficient agent in the task of reconstructing the country.

On March 11, Hernán Cheyre Valenzuela assumed the duties of CORFO Executive Vicepresident - CEO. He holds an undergraduate degree in business administration from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and a Master's degree in economics from the University of Chicago, with a specialization in public finance and economic development.

Cheyre, who was appointed by President Sebastián Piñera, said that CORFO's current work in promoting entrepreneurship and innovation, supporting smaller companies and boosting investment through InvestChile will continue to be the focus of its activities. "I will do everything within my power to strengthen this focus and expand the scope of the benefits offered by this Agency. CORFO is prepared once again to act as an efficient agent in the task of reconstructing the country ".

The new official replaces Carlos Álvarez Voullième, who turned over responsibility for the agency's programs and administration to Cheyre in a brief ceremony.

Up until now, Hernán Cheyre was the president of Econsult, a consulting company he helped found. He was also the CEO at the risk classification company Fitch Chile until 2004.

He has worked as a university professor in the areas of public finance, social project assessment and microeconomics, and has been a consultant for the World Bank and foreign governments.

In the last few years he has been the director of a number of different companies and was a member of the Public Policy Council of the Instituto Libertad y Desarrollo (Freedom and Liberty Institute).
