Corfo's InvestChile: A Momentous 2011

Juan Antonio Figueroa, Executive
Director of Corfo's InvestChile. We have reached the end of a very important year for Corfo's InvestChile. In 2011, we accomplished all the goals that we set for ourselves while also reorienting our work towards a more concerted focus on promoting Chile and the advantages that we have in sectors such as Mining Suppliers, Food Industry and Offshoring. Likewise, we began promoting a new multi-sector program providing wide-ranging support to the Industrial sector.
We held three highly successful forums. At these events, 170 companies from countries such as the United States, Spain, France, China and South Africa, among many others, visited Chile. In these forums, international entrepreneurs had the opportunity to become familiar with our country and its advantages, to visit the regions in Chile with the greatest potential for their businesses, and to meet with Chilean businesspeople in search of partners to help them carry out their projects. We know that these forums were very beneficial for everyone involved, and we are proud of the work we did as a team.
As I mentioned earlier, this year we accomplished all the goals we set for ourselves in terms of committed and fulfilled investments. At the beginning of this year, we said that we would make US$155 million in investment and that the committed portfolio would amount to US$ 260 million.
Well, now at the end of the year, we can say that we exceeded our goal widely. Our committed portfolio amounts to approximately US$ 1,730 million, and we have fulfilled investments for over US$ 280 million dollars, all of which provide value, technology, innovation and development for Chile.
Chile is a country that offers multiple investment opportunities, in addition to being a being business-friendly environment for their fulfillment. With the goal of making Chile's institutions even more attractive for foreign investment, the Chilean government has decided that beginning in March of this year, InvestChile will become part of the Foreign Investment Committee (FIC), an existing organization that will be solidified as the sole government agency devoted to attracting investment to Chile.
We are confident that this new policy will allow us to continue working more efficiently to provide incentives for direct foreign investment, thereby contributing to Chile's economic development.
